TariffShark Software Update Available Now

TariffShark Software Update Available Now

On April 17, 2020, FERC issued a notice that introduced a new eTariff validation rule to become effective May 18, 2020. The new validation verifies that “Normal” and “Amendment” type filings contain at least one (1) “actual” (non-Pro Forma) tariff record.

A TariffShark software update (release 5.1.3) is available now that introduces a parallel validation. The new validation rule in TariffShark is “F065” and its message reads as follows:

When making a Normal or Amendment filing, the Filing cannot contain exclusively FTRVs of Record Change Type “Pro Forma”.

If you’re running TariffShark release 5.1.2, the only component affected is the Application Server (unaffected are the TariffShark desktop client and the TariffShark database). Consult the TariffShark Releases page to assess the impact to your installation.

For customers who utilize hosted TariffShark servers and are running a current software release, there is nothing for you to do. We will update your hosted server prior to May 18.

Please contact TariffShark Support at 847-252-1611 or at support@tariffshark.com if you have any questions or concerns.

If you’re not yet using TariffShark to meet your FERC eTariff obligations, we invite you to contact sales and ask for a demo of TariffShark Tiger today.

TariffShark Hosted Services Update

TariffShark has been offered with a hosted subscription service option since FERC Order 714 took effect in April 2010. In Q1 2014, all hosting servers were upgraded.

Why Did We Upgrade Servers?

We upgrade servers from time to time to keep things running optimally. The fact is, our customers been making eTariff filings and the amount of data being stored has increased. Also, business is good: the number of customers supported by the servers has grown nicely. So, to keep up with the resource demand, the servers have been configured to run with faster processors, more memory, and more storage.

Disaster Recovery Update

Also in the first quarter of this year, we updated our disaster recovery procedures. Through the power of scripting, recovering from a potential disaster will be done with greater automation than in the past. Fewer manual steps means greater efficiency and speed in the event of a disaster. In the latest test of our disaster recovery procedures, a test server was booted in our DR data center, all data restored, and back online in under an hour.

TariffShark Team Simulates Disaster and Recovery

During the evening of December 4, 2013, the TariffShark team gathered in a conference room at the Links Technology headquarters in Schaumburg, IL to test our disaster recovery procedures.  In the event that our Tier 4 data center experiences an outage that causes the hosted TariffShark servers to become unavailable, we restore service to a secondary data center.  We test these procedures every 6 months as a service to our hosted TariffShark customers.

The test ran successfully in just over an hour.
